Nightmare Alley 2021 Remake vs 1947 Original
Most of us have at least heard of the 2021 film "Nightmare Alley" from director Guillermo Del Toro, starring Bradley Cooper. But did you know there is a prior film adaptation that was made in 1947? Today, we compare the two movies side by side.

Eclipse Variable ND Fader: Hands-On Review
I reside in the U.S. Is the Sony blu-ray disc/dvd player bdp-bx370 multi-region pal/ntsc? I put a Region 2/Pal DVD and it won't read it. What is the problem or how to I make it play? Thx!
@@RhobertinoRegalado It appears to be a standard player from what I'm reading. If it was bought from a retailer in the U.S. then it's probably region A, unless otherwise noted. Does the disc just not play, or is there a text pop-up that explains a region mismatch?
i want to get a region free player but since i am from europe its SO EXPENSIVE to shipp, in 220 a sony s670 is legit 290 euros for me after shipping, this is not cool
"here's a film I didn't know existed, about a topic I've never heard about, and I need to present my very strong opinion I have for no reason." classic!
She’s from Venezuela🎉Congratulations deserving the best for both of you
I bought Dr WHO: The Movie, Was BluRay from the UK was Region free A B C ALL, But Even in the Listing it said, That it will NOT play on Sony or Panasonic Bluray players Cause they don't convert 50hz to 60hz something or other, that's why they won't play but plays on other Bluray players, and it was a 2 disk set, the other being a DVD region 2 U K locked with extra features, So I WANTED a NEWER and bought a SONY REGION FREE UBP-X700 M 4K BLU-RAY PLAYER, Now I can play ALL from Everywhere Bluray's and DVD's, and it really upgraded my old Panasonic DMP BD80 player, Both disk in my Dr WHO The Movie set works perfect now
I'm a big fan of Scream Factory blu rays and live in Australia. So the Sony S3700 blu ray player is idea.
The vibrating sound is on the Mizuda Chinese brand DVD also. I'm in Australia I like Amicus British horror. They are often released by Kino Lorber which is Region A. The Sony S3700 blu ray player plays Region A modified by Bombay Electronics and sold by Amazon Australia.
also sometimes, movies released over seas have either more or different extras, than the ones released stateside
Totally! There's been some recent 4K releases like The Exorcist where the UK versions retain the legacy extras.
I have used region free DVD players for 10 years, since I have a very large collection of DVD's with UK, Australian and New Zealand TV programs. The US is NTSC and the UK is PAL format. I have never had any problems. A couple of years ago, I bought a zone free BluRay player and no problems with it, ether. I have thus far bought all my players from Amazon, so it is good to know Ebay also sells them. Have you any experience buying these players from Amazon?
I have not bought them on Amazon, but I'm sure they are some of the same retailers & would have no issues trusting their quality.
Was this just a way for him to show off his region b collection or does he eventually get to a point? Lol jk jk
The point was made in the first 3 minutes of the video. The remaining 15 minutes is me showing off.
@@streamPUNK hey sorry man was just being shitty because I took the chance and ordered a region free blu ray player and of course it comes without the sheet explaining how to use it and was trying to find vids on how they're suppose to work or something and every vid I found just seemed to assume i already had a working region free player so hit my breaking point on yet another one that doesn't really discuss the player itself. So was really just venting even though I realized what you were trying to do with this vid about 5 min in. Good luck with everything, see ya around
@ziggygunz2447 did you figure it out? Usually pressing 1, 2 or 3 on the remote will set the player to region A, B, C respectively. If you want the share the brand & model I can help locate some answers.
@@streamPUNK already been inside and out with it, I located a partial picture of the instructions which claimed I should turn it on and open the tray and when the tray was fully open press blue for region two and then it gets cut off but I assume I close it and then either let it load itself or press play but all it does is recognize that there's a BR disc and occasionally shows the title but will not play. I also tried different colors and I found one person that said I should have it connected to power but turned off and then select the color/region and it should automatically power up with the new region but mine doesn't, so I tried hitting the color before powering it on manually, also hitting power then the color, also just holding the color until I get to the menu, I'm at my wits end. Currently I'm waiting on a response from the seller on Amazon through their messaging system.
Any adapters for sony lens to panasonic micro 4/3. Already have canon ef adapter but want my sonys lenes e mount cant find any info anywere. Thank you
Looks like there may not be for that particular combo. From what I can see online, sounds like adapters are mainly for DSLR lenses to work with mirrorless cameras. Since Sony E are already mirrorless, there does not appear to be an existing adapter. However I do see one for micro 4/3 to Sony www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1250652-REG/fotodiox_mft_nex_micro_four_third_lens.html
And, the GH3 is weatherproofed. That’s a big deal! ✌️🌻
i think the old boy one from germany might just play natively on a region A player. i ordered regenisis a canadian tv series about outbreaks. its not available as a canadian release dvd for all seasons but the germany release has 1-4 complete. im hoping it will play lol. otherwise i guess i will need to buy a region free player lol
for anyone’s information region 4 dvd (australia, NZ) will play in region one as long as its NTSC.
i want one of these because the show tour of duty released a complete dvd box set in region one. but that release doesn’t have the original music including the iconic opening song paint it black by the rolling stones. but the pal region two version has the original soundtrack. also the second season of the fall guy with lee majors was only released in the UK. im sure there are many more that are only available in other non playable regions.
Any updates after two years of use? Did you add a Gen 3 Sub or sub mini? Did you add more Sonos products since? I started out with the Sonos Beam Gen 1, added Symfonisk bookshelf rear speakers, and then a Gen 3 Sub about a year later. I just recently upgraded the Symfonisk rears to One SLs. No complaints about the system, software, app, or ability to upgrade and repurpose speakers.
I'm still rocking the same system, but with plans to add the Sub Mini at some point. I've had to wire an ethernet cable to one of the rear speakers bc otherwise they lose connection to the Beam. Still wish it was all Bluetooth and not wifi, but whatever. I'd probably never even have chosen Sonos if I hadn't been gifted the two One SLs.
@@streamPUNK I added the ARC system to replace my Nakamichi 7.2.4 (Beam system in office). I had a similar issue with; but, with slower internet speeds, choppy streaming TV content, and slower webpage refresh. Connected the ARC to an ethernet and all that went away instantly. Adding surrounds were nice; but, added the sub made a HUGE difference in improving sound quality. The sub takes away nearly all the low frequencies and heavy bass so the Beam can only needs to concentrate on the mids/highs. Sonos has a 45 day return policy if you wanted to try the sub mini or Gen 3 sub for a bit.
Blu-ray and DVD players in Australia have to be region free by law. You can just take your player to the manufacturers service centre and they will make it RF for free.
Interesting that an Australian label like Umbrella still puts out region-locked disc (although many of theirs are region-free too).
@@streamPUNK To be specific the law states that bypassing the region locks isn't illegal. Also putting RL on in Australia isn't illegal either. But if you buy a new BD player here from like Sony or Panasonic you can ask them to make it region free before you pick it up. Umbrella is just following the norm I suppose.
That's funny In New Zealand they tell you that "region free" Blu-Rays don't exist(Harvey Norman).
Can I connect sonos beam with sonos one gen 2 as surround sound
I would hope so. My Sonos Ones are probably gen 1 like my Beam, but if I got the gen 2 Beam I'd hope it would connect to the older Ones and vice versa.
Also 3D blu-rays not available in the USA.
Any idea how to solve the lip sync issue which is now slightly out after changing to Dolby. I have tried adjusting on Sky settings but still no joy. Also I have connected the HDMI into the arc slot but not seeing Dolby atmos? Do you need to have the e arc to get Dolby atmos? Cheers
Are you using the gen 1 beam sound bar or the gen 2? The gen 1 doesn't support Atmos or even Dolby Digital, but gen 2 at least simulates Atmos. As far as syncing issues, I've found my TV has those settings where you can tinker with audio delay. It hasn't been an issue with me though, and I'm plugged into the ARC HDMI input on my tv.
@@streamPUNK cheers for the reply. I’m using the gen 2 soundbar. The lip sync is fine on the normal setting but as soon as I change it to Dolby Surround it then throws it out. But yeah I’ve never seen Dolby Atmos come up only Dolby 2.0 & 5.1
Thanks for sharing this!!
You support blood batteries. 🖕🏻🇨🇳

I think the original has the edge. It didnt try to outsmart the audience. The bad or good for Stan is little more blurred in the original. In the remake, he’s just bad from the jump, and it was obvious what was gonna happen
Yeah, and after reading the book I'm still not clear what all the flashbacks with his dad were about in the movie. Made his character sinister from the start, like you said.
Great review. It nice to see a younger person that appreciates the old black and white classic movies. I'm currently reading the book so will revisit your review when I've finished it. Tyrone Power was a popular romantic lead and played Zorro and swashbucklers. The 1947 characters are very different than the 2017 which is a very dark film. All the female characters are much more desirable in the 1947 and Stan has relationships with them. The 2017 females all less desirable: Molly plain, Zena tired looking, and Dr. Ritter totally sleazy. The 2017 version had that added scene in the beginning where he killed his father which just confused things. Stan and all characters were more likable in the 1947. The only thing I don't like about the 1947 is the forced happy ending added to the end. This was very common in Hollywood to take books that had sad or dark endings and put a happy endings on them.
awesome, man. i love it!
Looking for you, GG. (The Ghost)
I absolutely love their frozen Lasagna. I can’t image having it fresh. It would be life changing.
The DVD menu was probably stereo while the movie was surround.
The blueray player will be sending a processed signal to the TV by default, the soundbar needs an unprocessed signal (pulse code modulated - thus PCM).

get some m42 lenses too guys
Ahhh... the old GH2. I still have mine but haven't used it in years. Had a lot of fun with that camera back in the day. We all adapt lenses using both adapters and speed boosters with many advantages, but, for the life of me, I cannot understand replacing the stabilized 45-200 zoom with that Sigma 70-300. The pumper zoom action means it is a lousy choice for video, and it is heavy and too large. The sweetest FD lens to use on MFT is the 50mm f1.2, and the FD macro lenses can be really useful, but that Sigma is more like punishment than something that is a joy to use.
I never really uses that Sigma, for the reasons you stated.
I hope you’ve sat down to watch this by now. Douglass and Close crush their parts and have remarkable chemistry. Apart from the Hollywood ending (that is admittedly entertaining but a bit of a cheat), it’s basically a perfect thriller.
This blu-ray set includes an alternate ending, that you may prefer.
While home dvd release was delayed until 2005, it did run on broadcast and cable TV stations thru the years. It also was screened at revival/retro movie venues over the decades, as it did have a good/great reputation. There are movie history books 40/50 years ago that rate it as a top film. Very good commentary. You would enjoy the book to see the dark paths that neither version ventured in.
Very much looking forward to reading the book. It's in the queue on my e-reader
My only question is would a dvd or blu-ray disc that says region free play in English no matter what region it was released in?
I would think so. It's not like they don't have American releases abroad that people watch in English with subtitles, just like watching foreign films in their native language.
The 1947 film was out of circulation for decades, a box office flop, and never on home video until 2005 on DVD.. The ending you mention was forced by the studio. I enjoy your review and it's nice to hear someone who can appreciate films from all periods. And so right about the characters, especially Zeena--a significant character who is barely used in 2021 after her first appearance. And the tarot cards are a big deal in the novel and the 1947 movie.
Thanks for the added info! Didn't realize it was denied home video release for so long. I plan to read the novel soon.
@@streamPUNK I've been reading it myself for the first time and it has an unusual style. I like your videos, subscribed

This is the one I got that is featured in my video www.ebay.com/itm/324056557013
Lately, I've been researching region-free players because I want to watch blu-rays released in the U.K. This video has been helpful.
Masters of cinema have a nice selección and they aré cheaper that their criterion counterparts
Hi, I’m on the fence for getting 2 sonos One, how do you like it as a surround? I’m putting it on my small room and i just want the surround not the bass as i live in a apartment
I would say they are pretty subtle, unless you place them directly behind you. But there's definitely added dimensionality, just don't expect something rivaling an Atmos system
I ran mine as a pair for a while in the living room, they were very good. I've since added a Beam Gen 2 which has definitely filled out the sound for music playback (and of course great for the tv) Doesn't have the bass of the setup we have in the media room which has a dedicated sub - but it's still really impressive.
That’s why are built for yes the subwoofer would be sweet, ouch
Thank you, I just got a bean two days ago and also have a LG tv, so this was helpful! I live in Houston and have fiber internet and didn’t have connectivity issues with my speakers
I have the Sonos Beam and an LG C1 TV. You might run in to issues if you want to use Bluetooth headphones with your TV while the Beam is connected. Hit me up if it happens, I'll tell you how to fix it.
The reason the sound comes through on the menu of the movies is because that is usually recorded in two channel when the movies themselves dive into Dolby 5.1, DTS and up to Atmos
What if u dont have internet at all
Without internet you may not be able to pair additional speakers, but I think just a soundbar like the Beam or Arc will still work since they are wired to the TV through HDMI or optical cable
I'm looking for this particular set but I must ask, because I'm in North America. Is this a region A release? I can't seem to find anything on it
Yep, it's a region A release
@@streamPUNK thank you!
Surround system review and you don't even bother to check what HDMI ARC stands for? So much for the credibility of the review. Get a grip man.
I'm drowning in tears at the loss of my perceived credibility in your eyes
Well with that attitude I can see how your lack of interest in improving the quality of content shouldn't really come us a surprise.
I guess I'll start by getting a grip, as you suggested. Thank you for your genuine concern with improving my content.
is OM mount the same as four thirds? having trouble mounting four thirds to OM adapter to my micro four thirds camera
I'm not really sure. OM was designed by Olympus & so was Four Thirds, but I'm not certain if they are identical.
Got it 😎
For anyone that's thinking about getting the beam or the 2nd gen beam, sonos are updating the beam to support dts audio later this year.
Will they restock or is it a one time deal for steelbooks
It doesn't say "sold out" yet on their website, just "unavailable nearby" & they don't ship this item. So makes me think it could still be available in-store at some locations at this time.
Got this for $17 from Best Buy when preorders first went up.
Had to buy mine for $50+ because there were none to be had within 250+ miles of where live. Hopefully not a sign of the times...
Probably best to get it now, bc it could be double that price eventually. I was just in a similar situation with the Dredd steelbook that wasn't available near me & couldn't be shipped by Best Buy
